Investigator in Infectious Disease Control

What will you work with?
The work will include:
- Being a medical expert with specialist training in clinical microbiology, infectious medicine, or general medicine and providing expert support, primarily in infectious disease control, but also in antibiotic resistance, healthcare hygiene, vaccinations, global health, and pharmaceutical preparedness.
- Participating in the agency's ongoing collaboration with external actors, such as infection control units, clinical microbiological laboratories, healthcare hygiene units, antibiotic stewardship groups, clinical reference groups, and other authorities within the field of infectious disease control and preparedness.
- Representing the agency as an expert in various national and international contexts, such as reference groups and other collaborative forms, within organizations like ECDC, HERA, and WHO.
- Contributing to and leading the development of knowledge support, guidelines, recommendations, and reports, as well as participating in the agency's quality assurance work.
- Acting as a spokesperson in the media when necessary.
- Performing other tasks that occur within the agency.
Who are we looking for?
Requirements for the position:
- Licensed physician with a specialist education in one of the following areas: infectious medicine, clinical microbiology, general medicine, healthcare hygiene, or another subject area deemed relevant by the employer. The license and specialist education must be approved in Sweden.

Great emphasis is placed on:
- Personal qualities such as good collaboration skills, responsibility, flexibility, and strategic thinking. You have a holistic perspective and a good demeanor.
- Research education in a subject area deemed relevant by the employer.
- Several years of experience working with various issues in infectious disease control.
- Experience working in a governmental authority or other relevant public sector activities as deemed relevant by the employer.
- Experience working as an infection control physician or deputy infection control physician.
Significant emphasis is placed on:
- Experience in epidemiological surveillance and outbreak investigations.
- Experience writing reports, documents, and recommendations.
- Experience in investigative work within an authority.
- Experience in any of the following areas: healthcare hygiene, preparedness, antibiotic resistance, and/or vaccination issues.
- Very good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form.
Emphasis is placed on:
- Experience participating in or leading collaboration groups or expert groups.
- Experience in international work.
- Good knowledge of additional languages, preferably one of the UN languages.
What does the unit do?
The unit for infectious disease coordination and seasonal virus surveillance is responsible for coordinating the national infectious disease control efforts and epidemiological surveillance of COVID-19, influenza, RSV, norovirus, and mpox. The unit also includes the agency's EPIET fellows and their main supervisors.

About the employment
You will be employed as an investigator based at our office in Solna. The position is a full-time temporary position until 2026-06-30. Start date will be as soon as possible by agreement.
As an employee at the Public Health Agency of Sweden, you may be subject to military placement. Certain positions are classified where Swedish citizenship may be a requirement. A security review will then be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).
At the agency, there may be opportunities to enter into an agreement for remote work up to 40 percent of your working time.
